NATIONAL INTER COUNTY MASTERS SHEFFIELD PONDS FORGE NOVEMBER 18H 2007
Sheffield’s Ponds Forge was the venue for the regional round of the National Inter County Masters in late November. Once again the Yorkshire team were triumphant in beating their three competitors, Cheshire, Northumberland and Durham and Lancashire. For the first time in several years Cumbria failed to enter a team.
In a very closely fought event which was undecided until the final relay, the YSA team won by the narrowest of margins. The final points were Yorkshire 207 points, Cheshire 205 points, Northumberland Durham 125 points and Lancashire 120 points.
The highlight of the meet for the Yorkshire team was Bill Moore’s GB record in the Men’s 70/74 years 50m Breaststroke Bill held the previous record in a time of 39.94 but finished strongly in the time of 39.15 to beat his previous record by .79
County Coach Jill Massey of Halifax was delighted with the swimmers performance and said that everyone had swum to their potential and the win was more than justified.
Yorkshire was finally placed second in the National event with a total of 1602 points behind Warwickshire with 1732 points. This was an improvement on last year’s final placing when Yorkshire finished in fourth place.
