Congratulations to all the County swimmers who competed at the Championships held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield and in particular to the above medallists.
A special mention must go to the City of Sheffield Teams and especially the Women’s 72yrs+ 200m Freestyle team comprising of Jenny Starling, Laura Campbell, Kim Jervis and Stephanie Hackett. who broke the British Record and also set a new British Record of 4.07.45 for the Women's 72+ 400m freestyle relay. Also to our multiple gold medal winners, Bethan Corley, City of Sheffield, Raoul Feld, Lindum Mink, Brian Taylor, Adwick, Paul Callis, South Hunsley, David Holmes, Armthorpe and Paul Clemence, East Leeds. ASA NORTH EAST REGION OPEN MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS FREEMAN’S QUAY, DURHAM 25th SEPTEMBER 2011
The final domestic event of the season before National Masters was the North East Region Masters held in Durham. Laura Holroyd, Boro of Kirklees and Tina Wilson, Armthorpe topped the medal table in the ladies events with no less than six golds . They were closely followed by Nicola Hill, South Axholme and Sarah Kinsey, Boro of Kirklees with four medals and Kirsten Durrans, and Sally Shields Boro of Kirklees with three and Victoria Wilford Boro of Kirklees, Katherine Purcell, City of Leeds, Katy Griffiths, Spenborough and Deborah Crossland, Boro of Kirklees with two. Bringing up the rear were Hilary Crick , Thirsk and Rachel Whitwell, Boro of Kirklees with one gold. David Holmes, Armthorpe dominated the men’s events with a grand total of fifteen golds to his credit. He was followed by Steve Allen, Hull Masters with seven, Stewart Worthy, Boro of Kirklees with five and Brian Taylor, Adwick, Chris Brown, City of Bradford and Stephen Sowerby, Harrogate with three golds to their credit. Yorkshire Masters swimmers also came home with a host of medals and final placings which can be found in the results section.
