Nationwide DSE Yorkshire and Humber Disability Swimming Championships 2011 The Nationwide DSE Regional Disability Swimming Championships where held at The Hydro in Harrogate on Sunday 11th September. The Championships saw some closely fought races, with both new and seasoned swimmers from across the ASA North East Region taking to the water, with a large contingency from the East Midlands and North West Regions. The Championships where complemented by a Classification session in which all four swimmers where classified under the British Disability Swimming functional classification system. This increased the number of competitors with a classification to 59 which, been 20 more than the previous year, is testament to the developments of the Disability Swimming Pathway in and around the region. Three time Paralympic Bronze medallist, Claire Cashmore and the ASA North East Region President, Anne Reah where special guests at the event. For Anne this was her first official appointment after been presented with the Chain of Office only a day earlier. Claire stepped into her role as Ambassador for Disability Swimming with ease as she offered advice and encouragement to swimmers and coaches alike, before joining Anne to present the swimmers their medals during the awards ceremony. Standout performances came from newly classified swimmers Coral Farrell of Warrington Warriors and Megan Shackleton of Halifax SC taking the 9-10yrs and 11-12yrs top girl trophies respectively. Other age group winners included: Girls 13-14yrs Isobel Yeo City of Leeds SC 15-16yrs Sobia Walton Sheffield City SC 17+yrs Joanne Kempley Borough of Kirklees SC
Boys 9-10yrs David Scouler Sunderland Gateway 11-12yrs Joseph Seage Nova Centurian SC 13-14yrs Matthew Gibson Sunderland Special Olympic 15-16yrs Andrew Gould Sheffield City SC 17+yrs Andrew Zawadski Nova Centurian SC
